I have taught fifth grade students in Benson since 1991. I thoroughly enjoy working with students of this age, and I am enjoying seeing my former students come back as the parents of my new students. I teach one section each of reading, spelling, and language using Reading Street. I use Math Expressions to teach one section of math. I get to teach social studies to all fifth grade students. We study United States geography and history from the first Americans through the Civil War. Students are expected to memorize the Preamble to the Constitution and the first sentence of the Declaration of Independence. In addition to the four rules of the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program, there are three basic classroom rules for my students. The Olweus rules are: 1) We will not bully others. 2) We will try to help students who are bullied. 3) We will try to include students who are left out. 4) If we know that somebody is being bullied, we will tell an adult at school and an adult at home. The three general classroom rules are: Be responsible. Be respectful. Be safe. |
