SUICIDE AWARENESS


WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I HAVE THOUGHTS OF HURTING MYSELF?

-Talk with a trusted adult: parent/aunt or uncle/grandparent/a family friend/ a teacher/school nurse or counselor/doctor/pastor

-Go to the Emergency Room

-Call 911

-Call your doctor’s office and tell them you need to see someone immediately



WHAT IF A FRIEND TALKS ABOUT COMMITING SUICIDE?

              -Tell an adult immediately

              -Call 911

              WARNING SIGNS

              -Appearing sad and depressed -Writing a will

              -Talking or writing about suicide -Behaving recklessly/impulsively

              -Withdrawing from friends/family -Giving away possessions

              -Loss of interest in most activities -Previous suicide attempts

              -Feeling helpless/hopeless -Angry and rageful behavior

              -Poor school performance -Mood fluctuations

              -Abusing drugs or alcohol -Changes in sleep patterns

              -Changes in appetite or weight (gain or loss)
